The Roof restaurant

I was commissioned in 2024 to create a series of images for the newly remodeled and updated “The Roof” restaurant at the top of the Joseph smith memorial building in downtown Salt lake city, Utah.

the goal was to create works of art that would add nuance and subtlety to the ‘modernized art deco’ design of the space. nothing that would leap from the walls screaming ‘look at me!’ but add interest and ambiance to the fine dining experience. The images were used to fill spaces as large as 4’x7’ and as small as 42”x42”.

Where the restaurant is positioned to look over the unique Salt Lake City metro Skyline, these abstracted landscapes drew inspiration from Stained glass windows and woodblock prints to depict natural scenes of forests and mountains, streams and lakeside vistas found throughout the Rocky mountains. in effect, to ‘complete the view’ and experience of dining in northern utah.
